DPSS Industrial Laser Modules - Laser Pointers and Solid State Diode Lasers

DPSS laser modules are the most used types of lasers for both industrial applications as well as personal enjoyment. The term DPSS, diode pumped solid state, refers to the state of the laser diode as it produces its laser beam through its collimated laser crystal. The complexities of designing and modding lasers of this nature have pushed scientists and light engineers to design brighter and more powerful solid state lasers, from hand held pointers to large box laser units.

There is clear value in the use and application of certain laser products, no more so than in the use of industrial laser modules. Lasers are relatively new technology, and for this reason, there is constant advancement and improvement of both the design and performance of lasers for their specific said use. The most common forms of industrial laser use include laser engraving, laser cutting, laser burning, and more. The versatility of condensed laser light allows for a broad spectrum of valuable scientific and industrial based applications. Various laser beam color frequencies can be utilized, as each different wavelength will produce a different color, visible or invisible, that can then be tuned to be geared towards a specific use.

But what is the real difference between DPSS laser modules and your average laser pointer? There are clear differences both in design and in performance capabilities. For instance, dpss laser diodes require an external power source and must therefore be plugged directly into a walls electrical source or be attached to a laser "battery" for ignition. This poses a few problems if you are looking to perform any experiments in the outdoors or in the field, where plugging the laser in is impossible. The industrial laser diodes are usually far larger than laser pens as well, because many of them require internal thermoelectric cooling because of the heat produced by the solid state laser beam.

Laser pointers, on the other hand, are extremely convenient in size and shape, but may lack the same performance consistency as large boxed diodes. Also, industrial laser applications are nearly impossible for a laser pointer because the high-tech device must be manually engaged and even held in one's hand. This can make cutting and engraving all but impossible, not to mention most laser pointers are not capable of producing enough mW (milliwatt) power to complete the desired industrial task. Pointers are more geared towards laser presentations, astronomy, and even just simply laser pointer fun. There is no question that industrial dpss laser modules have found a strong standing amongst many industrial professionals around the globe, be sure that you are working with certified laser modules from a reputable dpss industrial laser retailer. You would not want to sacrifice a few dollars to buy a laser online that simply won't accomplish what you are looking for.

James has been utilizing DPSS industrial lasers since they first began to be mass produced around the globe. He has developed unique laser use methods and prefers DPSS industrial laser modules from certified laser provider thinklasers.com

Laser Engraving - What You Should Know About Laser Engraving and Laser Engraving Machines

Laser engraving and laser marking are high speed, non-contact methods of permanent marking. Laser etching is basically just another name for laser engraving. Some people just call it laser etching. Others call it laser engraving but basically the technique uses a computer-controlled laser beam to mark a surface. Laser marking is the favored marking method when permanency or aesthetics are desired.

Laser Marking

Laser marking is a process in which material is indelibly marked at very fast speeds (milliseconds per character). Laser marking is flexible, programmable and environmentally clean. Laser marking of glass by Co2 lasers on the fly or while moving can be an excellent addition for many industrial environments and applications for glass marking. Laser marking is also favored when the part to be marked is too small or has too complex a shape to be marked with anything but laser etching.

Co2 lasers can provide excellent results for marking glass and also provide significant reductions in operating costs and cost of supplies. Some the items that Co2 lasers and Co2 laser systems can be utilized for regarding laser marking and etching glass or quartz are float glass plants, manufacturing of glass doors and windows, permanent serial numbering, ANSI safety information, customer logos, decorative or specialty glass manufacturing, manufacturing data related to plant, production date and line, and/or part numbers. Co2 lasers when used to laser mark or laser etch glass and quartz replace traditional methods such as sand blasting, ink pad printing, and etching.

Laser Etching

Laser etching is the process of marking the material without cutting all the way through using reduced power. Laser etching provides a permanent message on an in-process or finished component. Laser etching can be done on many materials including slate, granite, stainless steel, leather, arborite, glass, mirrors, and premium hard woods.

Laser Cutting

Laser cutting offers a superior cut-edge quality with parallel sides and no burrs. The ability to laser cut complex profiles can eliminate the need for additional operations, making laser cutting highly economical. Laser cutting adds high precision, reduced contamination or warping, and a quality finish to industrial cutting applications. The laser metal cutting option can be added to some of the laser cutting machines.

Laser Engraving Machines and Systems

Laser machines and systems are used in a variety of applications and industries including medical device, aerospace, manufacturing, automotive, pharmaceutical, and electronic. A large number of industries, including electronics and communications, glass, medical instruments, tool and die, prefabricated construction and mold making use laser marking machines and systems. Quite a few companies make laser engraving machines, laser marking systems and laser etching equipment.

Laser engraving metal uses the most power especially if the metal is of the harder type. Laser engraving products include wedding giveaways, nametags, table nameplates, trophy engraving, laser wood engraving, etc. Also laser engraving services are available in most engraving specialty stores because it's now the most common type of engraving.

Laser Plastic Cutting

Laser-aided cutting has brought about a revolution in the manufacturing industries. These high-powered optical beams are used to cut through a variety of materials such as metal, wood, glass and plastic. The laser is directed at the required surface and moved around to cut the material in the desired shape. Laser cutting gives a finer finish to the end product as compared to conventional cutting methods.

A typical laser beam is about 1/5th of a millimeter in width and has an intensity of 1000 to 2000 watts. Most laser cutting machines are integrated into a CAD/CAM system that helps the user design the end product on a computer before implementing it on the work piece.

Laser cutting devices are proving beneficial in a wide array of industries. The plastic industry is no exception. These optic powered devices are used to cut precise shapes into plastic or acrylic sheets. The lasers can be used to cut plastics of varying thickness by simply altering the intensity of the beam. Lasers are not only used to cut through plastics but also help engrave on various surfaces.

Laser plastic cutting machines bring precision and accuracy to the entire process. Since most machines are fully automated, they can perform complex cutting operations at high-speeds. The laser plastic cutting machines can also be used to cut polymers, polycarbonates and other synthetic materials such as polyesters and rubbers.

The laser cutting method uses a non-contact approach when cutting the material. Due to this, the wear and tear associated with conventional methods is absent, preventing the product from any damage and deformation. The laser process also delivers a finish quality unmatched by any other process.

When using laser plastic cutting machines, care should be taken to avoid the use of flammable plastics such as PVCs. These materials cannot cope with the heat generated by the laser and get damaged easily.
